Friday Letters 04: Working Homeschool Mom Favorite Things
From household management and finances to self-care and homeschooling, here's what's making life as a working homeschool mom easier .
Hey Lovely.
Since July, I’ve been walking a new path—as a hospice chaplain. It’s drawn my 20+ years in vocational ministry into sharper focus, in ways I didn’t expect.
Pairing this sacred work with homeschooling my three sons? Not something I ever imagined doing at the same time. And yet—here we are.
Surprisingly, it feels like a season of beautiful both/and: both productivity and presence, structure and softness, service and slowness. We’ve curated a rhythm that honors our values, even in the messy middle of change.
Today, I want to share the specific tools and mindsets that are actually helping this season feel not just doable—but deeply life-giving.
If you’re navigating multiple roles or just craving more ease and intentionality, I hope these bring you a breath of simplicity and a spark of hope. ✨
In This Letter:
Household Management (for the Working Homeschool Mom)
Greenlight Debit Card & App – This one’s transformed how we handle chores and allowance. My younger boys (15 and 12) now have real ownership over both their responsibilities and their spending.
The app automates everything—no more “Mom, did you pay me?” Just peace. 🙌
The Simplified Cookbook by Emily Ley – Simple. Delicious. Family-friendly. I loved it so much, I sent a copy to my daughter (a busy Army paralegal)—and she and her husband are obsessed. If you need to streamline dinner, it’s a gem.
(P.S. It’s on sale for $12.99—usually $29.99.) Buy on Amazon.
Finances
Acorns App – I’ve been using Acorns to quietly build a retirement cushion—even before I had W2 income. It simplifies investing, saving for emergencies, even writing a will. No overwhelm, just progress.
Want to try? I’ll send you $5 to get started. [Here’s the link.]
Rocket Money App – Need help cutting expenses, budgeting clearly, and planning without stress? This is the app I use—and it’s free (or $6/month for Premium). It’s taken a huge mental load off.
[Check it out.]
Self-Care
28 Wellness App – I’m not a gym girl. But this app? It’s home workouts, period tracking, daily insights, and recipes—all synced with my cycle. One place for holistic wellness.

Terra & Co Oil Pulling Rinse – I love oil pulling, but who has 20 minutes to swish? This coconut oil rinse only takes five. Clean mouth, easy morning routine. [Learn more here.]
Self-Coaching Society with Susie Moore – After years of therapy and coaching, Susie’s self-coaching framework shifted everything for me.
Since joining in Feb 2025, I’ve:
Released emotional blocks
Reduced stress and expanded my capacity
Started healing my money story
Made aligned decisions in motherhood & work
This is less than $30/month—and worth every penny. [Try it here.]
Homeschooling
Outsourcing some subjects – This year, I’m teaching just two subjects—and outsourcing the rest. No guilt. Just relief. You don’t have to be the expert in every subject to be an excellent homeschool mom.
Check out:
Presence over perfection – On homeschool days, I’m home. Fully. I’ve ditched multitasking and embraced sacred slowness. And you know what? The boys feel it. I do, too.
I’m earning a full-time income doing what I love—and I’m finally enjoying homeschooling more than ever.
The Bottom Line
Being a working homeschool mom doesn’t demand perfection—it requires intentionality. The right tools. And the courage to stop doing what no longer serves and try something better.
I’d love to hear from you:
What’s lightening your load this season?
What tools, rhythms, or mindsets are helping you show up as your fullest self?
With so much grace,
Kristy 💐
