2 Silly Reasons I’ve Used the Same Handwriting Curriculum Since 2016
This post: My ridiculous review of the BEST handwriting curriculum.
Confession: If a homeschool curriculum doesn’t work for me, my kids, my budget, & my sanity – it’s OUT. No questions asked & no guilt.
It’s true: I’m a shameless start-over-with-something-else-if-this-doesn’t-work kind of mom.
But the ONE thing I HAVEN’T ditched over the years is our handwriting curriculum – I’ve literally used the SAME handwriting curriculum with all five of my kids since 2016.
Weird? I know.
And it’s not because my kids just love practicing copywork. (Because they don’t.)
After some deep self-reflection (just kidding), I realized there are TWO reasons I’ve stuck with it for nearly a decade . . . & they’re probably not what you think.
But FIRST, here’s how I found this best-handwriting-curriculum without even spending a dime . . . & how you can try it for free, too.
How To Find a Handwriting Curriculum for free (for real)
I discovered Write Through the Bible (that’s the handwriting curriculum I’ve used these many years, by the way) when I received a FREE printable in a homeschool bundle.
(So there you have it – I’m also a shameless freebie hunter.)
Obviously, my advice is to always look for a FREE sample before you buy anything. (I mean, it works at Costo, right?)
I’ll save you the search part, however. (Yes, you’re welcome.)
You can grab a FREE sample of Write Through the Bible this very minute.

Why we actually Stuck with Write Through the Bible
This isn’t my first handwriting rodeo. (And if you’ve ever tried to actually teach a young child how to write, then you know that it is, indeed, a rodeo.)
Like I already said, I’ve ditched a few curricula over the years (did I mention I’ve been homeschooling since 2008?) – including handwriting curriculum.
And the reasons why I stuck with Write Through the Bible are actually kind of embarrassing . . .
Because it’s cheap (as in, high quality/low price)
Because my oldest child didn’t give me fits about doing it
I know, I know. You were probably hoping it was something spiritual (I mean, it is a Scripture handwriting curriculum, for Pete’s sake).
Or because it helped my kids grow up & become professional calligraphers. (Not on your life, sorry.)
The REAL story:
I got a FREE sample. My then 5th-grade daughter (who hated handwriting practice) actually LOVED the freebie. I ordered the handwriting curriculum & have been a loyal customer ever since.
The end.

What Makes This handwriting curriculum worth using (on repeat)
Write Through the Bible copywork lessons are built around learning letter strokes & memorizing Scripture (it’s not just rote repetition)
Most of the handwriting books are a full curriculum for the school year (but there are a few mini books & bundles, too)
Write Through the Bible is the most AFFORDABLE handwriting curriculum out there – products start at just $5
& there’s the freebie
All workbooks are available in three fonts: Ball-and-Stick (the most simple form), D’Nealian Manuscript (prep for cursive), & Cursive
All books & bundles are available to purchase in either softback (you get a hard copy in the mail) or digital (you download & print the PDF yourself)
Should I get the softback workbooks or the printable pdfs?
Here are two questions I ask myself when making this decision every year:
Do I need the convenience & ease of having a ready-to-use workbook to hand to my child?
If yes, then the softback workbooks are probably a good fit.
Do I need to opt for saving money over saving time, & do I have access to a good printer?
If yes, then the printable PDF packets are an ideal choice.
Here’s a quick tip from Trisha, co-creator of Write Through the Bible:
“If you find the big books to be too cumbersome, you can always take them to an office supply store (like Staples) & have them cut the binding off & hole punch the pages for you to store in a 3-ring binder. That way, you can take out one page at a time for your child & not deal with the big book.”

So that’s it in a nutshell: how I found the best handwriting curriculum (for free), & why we use it every single year.
And why I’m recommending that you get your hands on that freebie & give it a try, too. (You don’t regret it.)

Would you stick with a handwriting curriculum for the two silly reasons I did? (Because it’s cheap & your first born child doesn’t pitch a fit about it.)
