What I Look for in Swimwear
I’ve given birth to five babies, I’m in my early 40s, + I have very light skin – so going for full coverage swimwear isn’t just about modesty for me. My body deserves a bit of support + safe, flattering coverage. And by “full coverage” I don’t mean collar bone-to-wrist-to-knees.
Here are five things I look for in swimwear:
beautiful prints + flattering styles
coverage for shoulders (mine burn so easily in the sun)
support + coverage for boobs
cuts that slim my waist + tummy
enough fabric to cover my bottom

This Season’s Top Swimwear Pieces
This summer, I purchased a variety of Lands End swimwear to try on. I only kept what I really loved + had the budget for, but each of these pieces met the five criteria I shared above.
Sizing note: At almost 5’6″, I find that Lands End bathing suites fit me best in my regular dress size (6), but in Long sizing. (I shared about my size + body type here, if you want to check that out for reference.)

Tummy Control Cap Sleeve X-Back One Piece
This swimsuit is super flattering! I personally loved the high neckline + cap sleeves, and the crisscross back really sets it apart. I didn’t end up keeping this one, but if I needed a second swimsuit this year, this piece would be in my closet!
Buying options: Choose from several summery prints; shown in “Navy/White Bias Tie Dye.” Sizing available in Regular or Long; cup sizes include Regular or D. Comes in sizes 2 – 18.

Scoop Neck Tuggless Sporty One Piece
This pretty bathing suite is just so summery! This one had great coverage, and I especially loved it in “Strawberry Stripe.” I didn’t end up keeping this one either, but it is a beautiful choice if you’re looking for a full coverage one piece.
Buying options: In addition to the preppy “Strawberry Stripe” (shown), this swimsuit comes in “Black and White Ombre” and “Deep Sea Navy Mix.” Sizing available in Regular, Petite, and Long; cup sizes include Regular – DDD. Comes in sizes 2 – 18.

Sweetheart Swim Dress
I loved how elegant I felt in this piece! The neckline is super flattering, and the split “skirt” over the swimsuit is just perfection. I ended up sending this one back too, but it is a beautiful choice if you’re looking for a flattering swim dress.
Buying options: In addition to the black-and-white “Havana Floral” (shown), this swim dress comes in four summery, floral prints. Sizing available in Regular and Long; cup sizes include Regular and D. Comes in sizes 2 – 18 (with several sizes already sold out).

SlenderSuit V-Neck One Piece
This was the keeper for me! The neckline is low enough without being too revealing, and the swimsuit is technically “skirted” without being a swim dress. I loved the flattering, ruched waistline, and the overall “vintage Hollywood” vibe of the style. I feel like a queen in this swimsuit!
Buying options: Available in “Black” (my choice) and “Blackberry” (a deep purple). Sizing available in Regular, Petite, and Long; cup sizes include Regular – DDD. Comes in sizes 6 – 18.
This style fits me perfectly in a size 6 Long, Regular cup.

Full Coverage Takini Tops
I’m a fan of full coverage two-piece swimsuits, simply because they tend to be easier to wear all day (think: easier to take on + off in the bathroom). Lands End has some gorgeous tankini tops this season!
Here are a few of my favorites:
Buying options: Lands End tankinis are available in Regular, Petite, and Long; cup sizes Regular – DDD; either Underwire or Shelf built-in bras; sizes 2 – 18; and with or without tummy control. The swim tops fit me best in size 6 Long, Regular cup. I find the Soft Cup option to be the most supportive + comfortable.
I opted not to get a new Tankini this year, as I already own two swim tops by Modli that are still in good condition. However, when I replace my current swim tops, I’ll likely opt for a Halter Neck style + the Highneck Sun Protection Tankini.
Full Coverage Swimsuit Bottoms
Lands End offers some fabulous + flattering swim bottoms to pair with your tankini tops!
My top three favorites include:
Buying options: Most of Lands End swim bottoms are available in Regular, Petite, and Long; sizes 2 – 18; and plus sizes. The swim bottoms fit me best in size 6.
I loved the tummy control swim skirt + would have bought it in multiple colors if I didn’t already own several pairs in other brands. (I’ll definitely be coming back to this style in the future.)
I did purchase a pair of 5″ board shorts in “Deep Sea Navy.” (I like that these include built-in panties.)
